| Grandma and Grandpa (I mean Aunt Martha and Uncle Bucky) with Darlene and David. Does anyone know which one is Darlene....? |
Aunt Martha was my favorite Aunt. When we were young my twin brother, David, and I would spend two weeks a piece at Uncle Bucky and Aunt Martha's house. One of my fondest memories was that of the paper route Aunt Martha did. Both David and I learned to un-officially drive on the route at a very illegal age!! At summers end there was always a new unexplained dent in the driver's side door from one or the other of us hitting a mailbox or two.
We would swim in the pool and take long walks in the woods or along the road. Aunt Martha was always digging in the garden or her flower bed. No matter the chore, she would make a fun game of it so you didn't realize it was work.
After Sunday dinner at Grandma and Grandpa Reynolds' she would take us sleigh riding, or play a game of ball, other times a swim in the local water hole down the brook. Most of the other adults would use the time without us around to rest but not Aunt Martha she was the leader of the fun!!
Many a Saturday night we would visit her home to watch Hee Haw. One of our favorite treats was popcorn. Aunt Martha made the best popcorn. She would deliberately burn some because that was the best part, the charcoaled pieces. On Sunday's our family would alternate between houses for a Sunday dinner. When it was her turn to have dinner, it was always late. She had her Sunday worship service and the Covered Bridge Church. Nothing was more important to her than her Lord Jesus Christ (even if someone went a little hungry!) Aunt Martha would start out at her house for Sunday School with just us kids in the car and by the time we arrived at church she had children stacked two by two in the car. Uncle Bucky use to tell her she was going to break the springs in her car if she wasn't careful. It was very important to her that all have an opportunity to worship the Lord. I always felt special in her church cause she was our Sunday School teacher. She always made it a point to introduce us twins, we were so proud to have her as an Aunt.
Looking back, Aunt Martha was a Christian woman in every sense. She lived purely, loved totally, and worshiped unconditionally. She always put God first. His light shines in my Aunt Martha.
Stacie I could go on and on! Thanks for the opportunity to share some of my special memories.
Love,
Thanks so much, Darlene! I never tire of hearing all the ways everyone loved Grandma, and the impact she made on so many lives. And I can never get through a post without crying!

wow Darlene, it's so great to hear other perspectives of who and what Grams was to other people. I totally remember her loving Hee-Haw too!! Love you.

I am glad you had so much time with her. She has always been great hasn't she? Thanks for contributing!
Darlene, the tribute to Mom is beautiful. You've been such an encouragement to us, having lost your mother, our Aunt Betty to this vicious disease. I think, Mom rubbed off on all of us because you have the gift of her loving and gentleness of spirit.
By the way, people, in the first picture Darlene is being held by Daddy. Mom and Daddy loved David and Darlene as you can see in that picture.
I love you, too.
Dolly
