Grandma Was Truly A Pure Woman and a Perfect Role Model

Today's guest posts in our “Honoring Martha” series come Johnny Banks, and his wife Jen. To see the details and instructions of this series, click here.

Being the first born grandchild, I spent a lot of time with Grandma and Grandpa. We would take walks, go down to the creek, wade in the water and catch crayfish, or go on the paper route. Grandma was always baking and tending to her family (especially her grandchildren). She was a very loving and caring person. Grandma was a truly pure woman and a perfect role model. Grandma-so active, so full of life and love. What a treasure to be around.  She always was so positive, a very happy and strong woman. I love my grandma with all my heart. Before her illness started taking control of her life, we would always talk about all the wonderful memories we shared while I was growing to an adult. Grandma was a very significant part of my life in the past and the present. I love you Grandma, you are greatly missed. ~Johnny

Johnny....thanks so much for writing this! I cried all the way through it. She was such a treasure, for sure. We all miss her so much. Love you. ~Stacie

The time I've spent with Grandma "O" has been very sparse because I am pretty new to the family and I live far away. The one thing that I can say about Martha is that she is truly a pure-hearted woman. She didn't have a bad word to say about anyone. In the few visits I've had with her, she always made me and my children me feel at home and accepted. ~Jen

Jen...I'm so glad you got to spend some time with Grandma, and even in that short time you were able to see how special she was. That is how she made us all feel. She was something. Thanks so much for taking the time to write this! ~Love, Stacie

All of Grandma's grandchildren. Johnny is on the left, with the red hat. He has Kristin on his lap. Then Stacie, with Shannon on her lap, and Eric holding Tamara. Front row...Mike, Adam, Bridget and Amie.

Johnny, I am a bit jealous that you had that extra time with the young Grams! But every minute with her was precious, and still is. And Jen, though your time with her was brief, I am glad that her love made an impression. Lucky aren't we???

Johnny and Jen,

I love you both as did Grandma O. She and Grandpa just loved you to pieces, Johnny, you being the first geandchild and all. She was proud of every accomplishment and saved every little thing. Your wrestling picture from the paper, programs from school plays, etc.

Jen, I commented on your letter under guest post. Mom loved you because you made Johnny happy and you gave her 2 more kids to love.

She loved all of you, grandchildren and great and you all knew it as is evident in the honors you're all bestowing on her. Thank you all for loving her and turning out so wonderful.
