"I Remember Being So Jealous that You Got to Call her Grandma"

Our very first response to the "Honoring Martha" request I sent out was April Harvey Biasi. To see the original "Honoring Martha" post, click here. Keep reading to hear what April had to say about Grandma Ormsbee.

Wow, where do I begin?? Most of my happy childhood memories include Aunt Martha and the rest of the gang! Our yearly vacation was a 6 hour drive to upstate NY and this was something that I was sooooo excited for every year. Boy when I spotted that swing on the porch after that long drive, I was just sooooo excited that we were finally at Aunt Martha's! Now when it was time to leave, that's a whole other story. Boy I would cry and cry! I never ever wanted to leave! My favorite day of the vacation was when we got to go to Sunday School with her and I was able to participate in her class - she made me feel so special! I remember being so jealous that you guys got to call her Grandma and I only got to call her Aunt Martha...LOL, so of course she said "you can call me Grandma too". Just an amazing, fun, loving woman! I know I will never have the privilege to ever meet such an amazing woman. She was something very, very special!! I remember going on her paper route with her and picking berries for some homemade super duper pies!!! I remember making her delicious cookies with the chocolate and vanilla frosting (which by the way, if anyone has this recipe please, please send it to me!) But most importantly, just the LOVE that she showered out to each and everyone of us! I honestly can't even begin to explain the wonderful memories that I have and they all include Aunt Martha. I LOVE AUNT MARTHA with all my heart and always always will!!!!! OXOXOXOXOXOX

Thanks April, for taking the time to write this. :-)

April, I hope that I'm the 1st with the recipe. Cocoa Drop cookies:cream together 1/2 c. veg. shortening, 1 c. sugar, 1 egg, 3/4 c. sour milk (add a tablespoon of vinegar to the milk to sour it), 1 tsp. vanilla. Add: 2 c. flour,1/2 tsp. baking soda, 1/2 tsp. salt and 1/2 c. baking cocoa. mix well. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Drop cookies by rounded tsp. onto cookie sheet. Bake approx. 8 min. Frosting: 1 c. veg. shortening, 1tsp. vanilla and enough confec. sugar to make a creamy consistency. Whip with beaters or mixer. Mom had a special magic with these cookies but this recipe has travelled hither and yon. Enjoy!

Bonnie,

Great blog as always. I'll comment to Stacie when I get a grip on this headache. Ended up catching a miserable cold. I love you all 3 , Dolly (Aunt Betty)

Too funny! I used to be jealous that you guys got to call her grandma too! Nice post Ape! You better bring me some of those cookies when you make them. I'd love to get Aunt Martha's beef stew recipe if anyone has it. OH! And her cream puff recipe!

Hey, April, now that I don't have a headache I re-read my post about the cookie recipe -you're supposed to add enough MILK to make a cteamy consistency. Duh! Isn't this blog great?! I love you, Dolly
