January 2, 2011 Mom is such a hoot

Today seemed quite restful.  I got up and around early and went to Sidney to get some things Mom and the dog needed.  Shannon was home for the week-end as usual and she stayed home and Grandma sat.  Mom slept until late morning and then as usual stayed in her bed and conversed with her special friends.  She actually got out of bed herself and headed to the bathroom.  I headed her off at the doorway and we had just a little tussle about the soggy depends.  But as usual there was some sort of victory for the caregiver..  Score 1 for Bonnie, yeah!!  She wanders so much that it can be a chore getting her to sit still long enough to have her eat.  I wish I could get one of her little angel friends to guide her to her chair and help her sit down.  Anyway, we peeled an orange and got out a strawberry Ensure (and yeah, I added a broken up bar of Kit Kat for added texture and taste) along with tea, the nectar of life right Patty.  She ate some orange and drank her tea then drank her whole Ensure (man I hope I never have to drink that but if I do someone please make sure it's chocolate).  You all need to realize that it took probably 45 minutes and alot of talking from Shannon and I to get that down her.  There were no real weird actions or wacky sayings (other than the usual stuff) today.  She did discover my china closet and drawers where I keep the kitchen towels.  I got the china closet door closed without her even missing a word of her prattle so I felt successful.  My Nova dog was so awesome tonight though.  I was at the table and Mom was at the laundry area near the back door.  I turned to check on Mom and saw Nova lying on the floor right in front of the back door.  I am so proud of the way that puppy has found her purpose in life in protecting Martha.  She evens loves Mom when she is slapping her or trying to gouge out her eyes with her thumb.  Mom just seemed to happy today.  She just wandered about, did nothing really unusual, and just seemed to be having a good time.  And she was very huggie.  I wish all of you guys could be here to stand in line for a Martha hug.  They are so special and let me tell you she puts her whole 98 lbs. into her hugging.  Shannon has gone back to Albany so I'm on guard tonight all alone.  Tomorrow the Hospice aid returns from vacation and Stacie and Amie are coming to spend time with Mom.  Levi and I are going to go out and spend some Namie/Levi time together.  I cherish my time with my grandkids.  They make my life so, well, fuller and worthwhile.  I sure am glad my girls decided to have kids.  Thanks girls!!  This week will also be full, I have alot of free time between the girls, my sister, Hospice aid, and the special gift of an aid Stacie gave to me.  Hope everyone has a good week this week.  Just remember our days are getting 1 minute longer every day :)

Couldn't go to bed without reading the blog - I'm addicted!!! Glad you had such a wonderful day. I agree about the Martha hugs - each one is a special gift.

I love you both,
Dolly

Boy! Do I miss those Aunt Martha hugs! If I close my eyes, I can still feel them, that's how much love she put into them, that through time and distance I can still feel them. As I read your entry to my husband tonight, even he commented on how good her hugs felt. I really love your blog! As I read it, my memories start coming back and little things I forgot about, come to mind. It's funny how you mentioned Aunt Martha scrubbing your legs....my sisters and I always joke about how my mom used to brush our hair roughly. Megan use to come find me and ask me to brush her hair for her before my mom saw it. Remember mom? I hope you have a good day tomorrow! I look forward to reading your next entry. Love you!
